Back to school

Josh is a first grader! He started school on Tuesday and we survived the first week of school. Josh loves school. The day before he started we bought him a lunch box. We were surprised when he bypassed the Transformer lunch box for a red insulated one. But he loves the pockets and loves to take his lunch to school. He loves that he can take pasta and yogurt, his favorite lunch. The red and black insulated lunch box is much more grown-up and appropriate for a scientist, anyway.

He had a great first week. He made a couple of friends, Chase and Hunter, and they play together at recess. It took a couple of days for him to make friends, but he said that one day at ball recess he saw Chase by himself without a ball, so he went over and talked to him and invited him to play with him and the person he was playing with that had a soccer ball. We were so proud of him! He really is a good friend. He seems to really like his teacher and the things that they do.

Melia has really missed him. She likes the time and attention she gets when she’s the only kid here, but she was very whiny this week which really isn't usual for her. She was really happy on Saturday since "all her kids" were home. It will take time for her to get use to having her "best big buddy Josh" gone for most of the day.

Melia has been a good helper lately. She has been helping us strip the banisters down so we can refinish them. Sometimes she even remembers to use the rough side of the sandpaper on the wood.
